Multnomah County’s Central Human
Resources (HR) Division seeks a talented, experienced candidate to join its
team as a Classification and Compensation Consultant. The Class Comp
program is part of the County's Central HR Divsion and is managed together
with the Labor Relations unit. Class Comp is responsible for overseeing the County’s classification
system and compensation plan to help ensure the County attracts and
retains talented, skilled applicants and employees. Additionally the Class Comp
team regularly conducts studies of selected job classes for pay
competitiveness, and for consistent, equitable classification usage.
This consultant position will be the team's functional lead,
subject matter expert, reporting directly to the Labor Relations Manager. As
the Class Comp team leader, the position will oversee and participate in
conducting large studies, special projects such as executive comp, performance
management/salary administration, and ongoing reclassification work. This
Compensation Consultant will be also a key participant in the new bargaining
process with the County’s largest union which resumes this Summer and ends next
Spring.

- Thorough knowledge of and the ability to execute
effective project management principles, procedures, and schedules.
- Solid ability to effectively utilize standard
office suite applications, particularly database applications.
- Thorough knowledge of mathematical and
statistical principles and their applications in compensation, and human
resources operations.
- Thorough knowledge of effective HR practices,
theories, and principles.
- Working knowledge of supervision, coaching
principles/practices, and labor relations.
- Ability to effectively work in a union
environment and in a diversified, large public sector enterprise comprised
of very unique business and service entities.

| Requirements |
Any
combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required
knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the
knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Eight years of professional human resources
experience, which includes a minimum of five years in compensation or
classification and at least one year managing a major classification or
compensation project, leading/working with associated teams and the
impacted employees of the study or project; AND
Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, human
resources, social sciences with solid math/statistics coursework; Masters
degree preferred and certification in compensation highly desired; AND
Other: Organizational Development expertise and/or managing change
is required. Solid math background including work with quantitative and
qualitative statistics, effective presentation and writing skills are required.
World at Work certification in compensation and SPHR highly
desired; AND The ability to pass a criminal background check.
