This position is responsible for leading and participating in the operation of the Savannah Area Regional Intelligence Center (SARIC). The Savannah Police Department (SPD) is searching for a professional senior criminal intelligence analyst/manager who will lead and grow an analytic unit responsible for both operational and strategic analytic support to all levels of the Department. The position requires an energetic self-starter who possesses leadership experience, excellent research and analytic skills, a thorough understanding of associated IT tools, and the ability to take full advantage of those tools to manipulate data for efficient and effective analysis.
This position currently leads a unit of 9 civilian staff who provide 24/7 support with a heavy emphasis on providing timely and actionable intelligence involving violent crime.
Lead a team of professional analysts to: initiate and develop streamlined procedures to assess crime trends; assist officers in their investigations; and prepare tailored intelligence reports.
Act as the conduit for information sharing among analysts, precinct personnel, and specialized investigative units within the SPD.
Work with external as well as internal customers to create an atmosphere of cooperation through information sharing.
Work to build and maintain a streamlined IT system for creating data bases, analyzing data, and disseminating reports.
Facilitate training for all intelligence analysts and other SPD personnel on analysis, reporting, and data storage techniques.
Promote security awareness. Have a comprehensive understanding of security policies, and rigorously enforce all regulations.
Brief senior management as necessary.
Attend/participate in inter/intra-agency criminal analyst meetings, training sessions, and seminars.
Demonstrate a knowledge of and ability to adhere to Departmental procedures and policies and various applicable federal and state laws.
Responds to internal requests for data used for decision-making or planning purposes.
Prepares written materials concerning department activities for their Police Commander.
Responds to various surveys conducted by ICMA, the US Department of Justice, PERF, IACP, and various universities.
Maintains current knowledge of academic research, technological advancements, and information from periodicals and literature relevant to the police department.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Business or Public Administration; with seven (7) years of experience in crime analysis, local government data analysis; public business management, or management systems analysis, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Master's Degree preferred. Certification in Federal Regulation 28 CFR Part 23 required. Supervisory experience preferred. Valid driver's license is required. Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, and post offer/pre-employment medical screen required. Verification of education, certification and licenses will be required prior to employment. Work Location: 201 Habersham St. Normal Work Schedule: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday (occasional afternoon, evenings, holidays and weekends)
Preference will be given to applicants with full-time leadership experience managing a law enforcement or military intelligence function or comparable work unit.
Preference given to candidates with a Certification in one of the following: The International Association of Crime Analysts' (IACA) Certified Law Enforcement Analyst Program, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's (GBI) Georgia Law Enforcement Criminal Intelligence Analysis; the Alpha Group and the California Department of Justice's Certified Crime and Intelligence Analyst; or the International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts' (IALEIA) Criminal Intelligence Certified Analyst.
The final score on this examination will consist of a rating of education and experience, plus veterans preference points, if eligible. The names of all competitors rated eligible for appointment will be placed on the proper register according to their final score.
