The Next Street Director of People, Heart & Pulse is in charge of managing the strategy and processes related to building and retaining an exceptional team of education professionals. Working with the organization to continue to develop a well-defined company culture is another key role of this position.

The Director of People, Heart & Pulse is responsible for all Human Resources administration. This position also oversees HR activity for employee onboarding and offboarding. This person is also responsible for the maintenance and updates of employee handbook to include any changes we deem necessary due to growth and company climate.

Director of People, Heart & Pulse reports directly to and will have performance evaluated by the CEO.

Business Acumen: As the lead strategic advisor, the DPHP must understand the organization and the potential evolution of the business. As a solutions-oriented change leader with influencing capability, they must develop and align the people strategy with the business strategy by planning, implementing, and evaluating employee relations and human resources policies, programs, and practices.

Organizational Leader: The Next Street DPHP must have an innovative mindset and develop new ways of working across a diverse talent pool to optimize work and performance. These leaders must have a superb reputation as a strategic doer, demonstrating agility and collaboration throughout the organization. They will collaborate with department and organizational leadership to Maintain the work structure by updating job requirements and job descriptions for all positions and prepare employees for assignments by establishing and conducting orientation and training programs.


Culture Influencer: The Next Street DPHP is a good storyteller, with the ability to orchestrate shared values across employees, customers, suppliers, investors, and the community through our annual culture report and other initiatives. They are dedicated to helping to reinforce and stitch together the culture and shared values across the candidate and employee lifecycles. The Next Street DPHP ensures every employee gets equal access to planning, monitoring, and appraisals of their work results by training managers to effectively coach and discipline employees; scheduling management conferences with employees; hearing and resolving employee grievances; and providing structured mediation for disagreements between employees and supervisors.

Talent Architect: The Next Street DPHP has a demonstrated ability to attract and hire and identify top talent, with a focus focused on diversity and inclusion as a competitive business advantage. They have the ability to develop relationships and build communities with an effort to drive engagement and support or create talent and leadership development initiatives. They will support organization staff by establishing a recruiting, testing, and interviewing program; counseling managers on candidate selection; conducting and analyzing exit interviews; and recommending changes., The Next Street DPHP will speak for the staff’s financial needs by designing a pay plan that includes conducting periodic pay surveys; scheduling and conducting job evaluations; preparing pay budgets; monitoring and scheduling individual pay actions; and recommending, planning, and implementing pay structure revisions.

Data/Technology Advisor: The Next Street DPHP is a forward-thinking technologist who understands how to use data and technology to drive productivity and forecast workforce trends. They are dedicated to using the programs and tools we have established and look for new ways to improve our processes. The Next Street DPHP supports the creation and enforcement of management guidelines by preparing, updating, and recommending human resource policies and procedures related to data, technology and general procedures based on their direct line of communication to staff at all levels into the organization.

Emotional Intelligence: Empathy and strong interpersonal skills are essential for The Next Street DPHP. We are looking for a compassionate, self-aware, self-started that is able to skillfully manage their emotions and those of others. The Next Street PHPM cultivates professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.

Authenticity: The Next Street DPHP must have a unique ability to help manage frequent and complex ups and downs, while being open and transparent with employees, fostering trust and being a resource during our different growth stages. The Next Street DPHP has the ability to work with all members of the team to accomplish new projects or identify needs for the staff while genuinely connecting to the people inside the organization.

HR Admin: The Next Street DPHP will be responsible for the completion of all HR Admin activities, including: Create and maintain accurate employee files, track employee benefits for eligibility and use, administer all employee benefit activity, act as a resource to peers for hiring, discipline and termination needs and manage unemployment claims and hearings.




  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university or similar work experience preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in progressively responsible human resource roles
  • 3+ years of experience in Labor Relations and Employee Relations
  • 3+ years of experience in a supervisory role

PHR/SPHR certification preferred
